Seeking Antiques and Collectibles in Sydney CBD

Sydney’s central business district hosts a range of streets and alleys that developed with the coming of the earliest settlers. As Sydney grew so did our shopping districts, our arcades, street frontage and major shopping centers. Like any cosmopolitan centre, Sydney offers a big range of products and services, but the intent of this is finding the best antiques in and round the Sydney metro area.

Concealed in the heart of Sydney are several treasure troves where you’ll find the most fantastic antiques and collectables. From The Rocks, to the Strand Arcade, QVB and the various sidestreets, Sydney and surrounds offers a huge range of jewellery, object d’art, collectables and rare finds that are certain to suit all seekers.

One of the oldest areas of Sydney is The Rocks, literally formed with the arrival of the 1st fleet in 1788 where our settlers created the 1st open air jail, transforming into a thriving port side community. With such a rich past, this forms the background for numerous well-established antique stores, including Bottom of the Harbour and Margo Richards where you can source maritime collectables and a huge range of vintage presents.

Heading away from the harbour of Circular Quay into the town you arrive into the historic Strand Arcade. Completed in 1892, the Strand Arcade is the last remaining still in its original form of the five arcades that were built in the mid-to-late 19th Century. Spread over 3 stories, accessible via Pitt and George Streets, this historic building is home to many shops offering gifts and collectables. On the Ground floor, sitting right in the center, is one of the oldest antique dealers in the arcade, Victoria & Albert Antiques whose huge display spans from antiques through vintage and retro. Also neighbouring are Tresors and SVW Fredman. In but a small distance you can purchase some of Sydney’s finest jewelry, offering watches, clocks, albert chains, fobs, and more spanning the eighteenth, 19 th and 20th Centuries.

A close by building, Queen Victoria Building was completed in 1898. Originally the Sydney markets it was created as a tribute to Queen Victoria and is now known as the QVB. If looking for modern jewelry, this is home to a number of Sydney’s leading designers and outlets including Georg Jensen, Bunda boutique and lots more. QVB is also home to Martin & Stein and Kalmar Antiques, both known for their wonderful jewellery.

With a lot more stores littered throughout the city streets, Sydney offers our local and world visitors a massive range of collectables from maritime to prints and books, jewelry to watches, silver, gold and a lot more. If you’re looking for a rare find, for a unique gift, anniversary present, then drop into Sydney’s historic streets and arcades and find yourself something special.
