IP Clocks in Transportation Facilities
Bus terminals, train stations, airports, and any other kind of transportation facility rely heavily on the accuracy their clocks. With buses and planes that must leave at the correct time, as well as passengers who must arrive at the boarding zone on schedule, referencing accurate time is a crucial component to the functionality of the entire facility. However, the facility managers of these institutions thoroughly understand the importance of accurate time in their airport, bus and train stations, which is why many transportation facilities have implemented a synchronized timing system into their building.
But out of all the different clock systems available to transportation facilities, which is the best proven solution for this type of institution and its particular timing needs? While any type of synchronized timing system will provide a viable solution for a transportation facility, IP clock systems offer certain features that specifically cater to the timing requirements of these institutions. This article will outline two features of IP clocks that the facility manager of the airport, bus or train station would find easily manageable and effective for their building.
Easy System Management
IP clocks are integrated into a transportation facility’s network infrastructure upon installation. Each clock is individually connected to an Ethernet jack in the wall via CAT5 cabling, directing all IP clocks in the building to the same source of time—the time received from the internet or an internal time server. Since every clock is routed to the same network within the transportation facility, it creates a platform for an easily managed system when the right software is implemented. To work over the network, each clock must have its own IP address, which gives the user the ability to communicate with any clock in the system individually. This means that special configurations can be assigned to one or a few clocks at a time. For example, the facility manager of an airport could display the date on digital clocks in one part of the terminal but display down to the second, accurate time in another. Additionally, since every IP clock in the system is tied into the same Ethernet network, all clocks can be managed from a computer connected to that network (when software is provided). This allows the user to manage an entire system through one computer screen, eliminating the need to travel to every area in which a clock is installed in the airport, bus or train station.
Zone Clock Capability
As was mentioned previously, users can communicate with the IP clocks individually, having the ability to configure different settings for any clock desired. IP clocks are a great solution when a facility manages vessels that cross time zones or international borders and is looking to display zone clocks within their building. The facility manager may use as many clocks from their system as desired to display the time zones of different cities, states, or countries, providing a variety of time displays for travelers crossing into these different territories.
When IP clocks are implemented into a transportation facility, not only is accurate time provided, but the facility managers of these institutions find the special features of an ip clockto work wonders for their particular situation. With the convenience of an easily managed system, and having the ability to provide travelers with the time zone they will soon be entering, the transportation facility will improve in functionality as well as its effectiveness in serving its patrons.
