Why You Should Buy A Home Near The Ottawa Light Trail Transit Stations
The City of Ottawa is quickly expanding as a result making the commute to one side of the city to another longer for residents. The city is already experiencing a lot of traffic problems from people living in the regions outside of the Greenbelt and commuting to work on a daily basis. The areas outside of the Ottawa Greenbelt are referred to as Urban Centres they include Kanata, Stittsville, Barrhaven, Riverside South and Orleans. Since the amalgamation Urban Centres accounted for 64% of new City of Ottawa’s growth.
With this rapid growth our city’s transportation also needs to grow and evolve. It has become clear that our bus system can no longer support our current growth and future needs. The City of Ottawa has identified Rapid Transit Network and the Light Rail Train the solution and has made this project one of their priorities. Included in this project is a tunnel located in downtown Ottawa that would make our commute faster, more efficient and more environmentally friendly. The Downtown Ottawa Transit Tunnel Planning and Environmental Assessment study is to be completed by January 2010 and is the first step in making this downtown tunnel a reality.
The current study is looking at building the light rail system Between Tunney’s Pasture Station and the Blair Transit Station. On May 6th 2010 The Transit Committee will present the City of Ottawa with its recommendations on where the stations will be located and how transit users will be able to access the tunnel from the street in the downtown area as well as the urban design of the stations and how they will be integrated to the current buildings.
This new light rail transit system will most likely affect the Ottawa real estate market and where people to choose to buy their homes or condos in Ottawa. The current study is looking to create a light rail train system that would go from Tunney’s Pasture Station to the Blair Station but have plans to perhaps extend the system all the way to the Urban Centres outside of the Greenbelt in the future years. Ottawa residents who commute downtown on a daily basis can now choose to buy their homes or condos near the transit corridor and the Tunney’s Pasture Station and Blair stations as these will in fact constitute important stations. Residents of Urban Centres such as Orleans will need to commute by car or bus to the Blair station and from there transfers to the light rail train to get to downtown Ottawa.
When buying a home or condo in Ottawa take into account the future problems of transportation we will be facing. If you work in the downtown core calculate how much it will cost you in time and money to commute every day. Be sure to ask your real estate agent in Ottawa about your options and share with him your current financial situation. This will allow your real estate agent to better understand your current and future needs and to help you find a home or condo that will meet both of these.
