What were the Balkans– World War I?
What were the Balkans? Before/during WWI, why was there so much conflict there, and why did European countries want to dominate it? To which culture do the people who live in the Balkans belong? (Are they Bosnians, Bulgarians, etc.?) Who were they allied with?
Sorry for so many questions, I’ve been studying WWI for my history class and I keep getting confused..
The Balkans is in the Southern region of Europe, there is much conflict there since Militarism was at a all time high in Europe. The assassination of the archduke Franz Ferdinand, was believed to be the idea of self-rule and self-determination. The Balkans region contained many different cultures, at the start of WWI they were allied with France and Britain while Austria and Hungary allied with Germany
